Ai Weiwei in Dialogue with the Bode Museum

In the exhibition “Ai Weiwei in Dialogue with the Bode Museum,” one of the most influential voices in international contemporary art engages with the collection, history, and architecture of Berlin’s Bode Museum.

Existing and newly created works, as well as objects from the artist’s personal collection, engage in a multifaceted dialogue with 2,000 years of art history within the museum’s spaces. Shaped by experiences of repression, exile, and migration, Ai Weiwei casts a gaze—both personal and critical—on familiar images, values, and social orders. His interventions open up new perspectives on questions of belonging and exclusion, power and resistance, memory and loss—and on how identity only takes shape through encounters with the supposedly foreign.

Highlight: This show is one of the top exhibitions in Berlin in 2027.
