Lecture Series, Vol. 2: Tue / 3:00–4:00 p.m. / Nov. 3, 10, 17, 24, 2026
Accompanying the special exhibition “Rubens, Jordaens, van Dyck: Flemish Master Drawings” (Oct. 10, 2026 – Jan. 31, 2027)This lecture series focuses on the art of drawing and painting in the Netherlands during the 16th and 17th centuries, an era of profound political, religious, and social upheaval. Drawing was far more than just a preliminary study: it served as a means of generating ideas and artistic experimentation. The focus is on artists such as Rubens, Jordaens, and van Dyck, whose drawings offer direct insight into the creation of their works. A comparison with the art of the Northern Netherlands opens up new perspectives on drawing practices and the processes of image creation.
