A cultural monument made of paper. The Spandau church library

Cabinet exhibition

Ausstellung zur Spandauer Krchenbibliothek.

Ausstellung zur Spandauer Krchenbibliothek.

The small exhibition room on the first floor on the right informs visitors about the valuable holdings of the historical library of St. Nikolai. The furnishings are based on the study of the priest Daniel Friedrich Schulze (1739-1811): Writing desk, bookshelf and a large table for spreading out the writings. The desk displays a selection of funeral sermons and other personal writings from the library.

The St. Nikolai parish in Spandau has one of the few church libraries in Brandenburg whose collection has been preserved for centuries without major loss. All phases of the cultural development of Brandenburg-Prussia - the Lutheran Reformation, the change of denomination in 1613, the rise of Huguenot spirituality and the Enlightenment - have left their mark, so that the library itself can now be considered a cultural monument. You can find more information about the historical book collection here.

In addition to the cabinet exhibition "A cultural monument made of paper", we offer public guided tours of the library room, see dates below.

Before or after your visit to the exhibition, the adjoining cosy café invites you to linger: under secluded old trees on Reformation Square, in the bright conservatory or in the half-timbered parlour with fireplace.
