The incidence of Covid-19 for Berlin has continued to decline and the number of patients in hospitals with a Coronavirus infection has fallen slightly.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported an incidence value of around 150 on Thursday. A week ago, it was 189; in the weeks before that, the number of registered new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was still over 300.

High number of unreported cases

However, the incidence does not provide a complete picture of the infection situation. Experts assume that there is a high number of cases not recorded by the RKI - especially because not all infected persons have a PCR test. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics.

Around 1,350,000 cases registered in Berlin so far

The RKI registered 1002 new Corona infections in Berlin. This brings the total number of cases registered in the capital since the start of the pandemic in spring 2020 to just under 1,350,000. 2 new deaths were reported to the RKI. According to this, there have been a total of 5040 deaths in Berlin in connection with a Coronavirus infection so far.

62 Covid patients in intensive care

According to the situation report, the hospitalisation incidence in Berlin was 11.3. This value indicates the number of hospital admissions per 100,000 inhabitants in connection with a corona infection. 661 patients with Corona were hospitalised. The occupancy rate of intensive care units was reported at 5.7 per cent, or 62 covid patients. About a month ago, the number of patients with corona in hospitals was 16 per cent. At that time, 875 patients were treated for Corona disease or infection.
