The incidence of Covid-19 in Berlin decreased again and the number of Coronavirus patients in hospitals also decreased slightly.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported an incidence value of just under 189 on Thursday. A week ago, the value was still at around 252; a week before that, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was 362.

Experts suspect high number of unrecorded cases

However, the incidence does not provide a complete picture of the infection situation. Experts assume that there is a high number of cases not recorded by the RKI - especially because by far not all infected persons have a PCR test. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics.

Nearly 1400 new infections, 17 deaths

The RKI registered 1395 new Corona infections in Berlin. This brings the total number of cases registered in the capital since the start of the pandemic in spring 2020 to just under 1,343,000. 17 new deaths were reported to the RKI. Accordingly, there have been a total of 5007 deaths associated with Corona infection in Berlin to date.

62 Covid patients in intensive care

According to the Senate's situation report, the hospitalization incidence in Berlin was 11.1. This value indicates the number of admissions to hospital per 100,000 inhabitants in connection with a Coronavirus infection. There were 692 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals. Intensive care unit occupancy was reported at 6 percent, or 62 covid patients. A month ago, the figure for patients with corona in hospitals was 16 percent. At that time, 875 patients with Covid-19 were hospitalized, 53 of whom were in intensive care units.
