Coronavirus incidence just below 500: hospitalization rate increasing

Corona-Tests

On Tuesday, the incidence of Coronavirus infections in Berlin was at 493.8, a slight decrease compared to the previous day.

According to the situation report of the Berlin Senate, 4530 new cases were reported within one day. Thus, since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,155,785 Corona cases have been reported in the capital. There were two additional deaths related to the virus.

Significant increase in hospitalization rate

Meanwhile, the hospitalization rate followed the upawrd trend of the last few days and rose further to 14.5, putting it well within the red zone of the corresponding Coronavirus warning light system. The hospitalization rate indicates how many Covid19 cases were admitted to hospital per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days. Intensive care bed occupancy by Corona patients also increased slightly to 5.9 percent. Here, the Corona traffic light is on yellow.

Experts suspect high number of unrecorded cases

However, the incidence does not provide a complete picture of the infection situation. Experts assume that there is a high number of cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because not all infected persons have a PCR test. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics.
