Administrative reform continues to make progress
The Berlin Senate has introduced a new law on district financing. What that means for reducing the administrative burden and improving efficiency. more
The new construction of the bridge over Blumberger Damm in Berlin-Marzahn is complete. It was officially opened to traffic at a ceremony on Tuesday morning.
After almost 4.5 years of construction, the new Südliche Blumberger Damm Bridge has been opened to traffic. With the opening to traffic, an important transport link for the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district has been restored. The bridge, which spans the railroad tracks and Wuhlgartenweg, serves in particular as a link to the Berlin Accident Hospital and as an important north-south connection between Landsberger Allee and the B1/5 federal highway.
Ute Bonde, Senator for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment, said at the opening: "Today we can see that thinking big has paid off." The entire section has been completely renovated - with new lanes, modern bus stops, renewed cables and, above all, safe cycling facilities on both sides. "We are investing in sustainability here. And we have shown that: If everyone pulls together, the construction time and budget can be adhered to - or even undercut," said Bonde.
The replacement construction of the almost 36-metre-long bridge was "absolutely necessary" due to the poor condition of the previous structure and the building materials used, according to the traffic administration.
