Berlin's public order authorities are declaring war on dog excrement in public spaces. To this end, more checks are to be carried out in particularly polluted areas.
Under the motto "Heaps of controls", dog owners are to be reminded of their responsibility to properly dispose of their four-legged friends' droppings until Sunday, according to a statement from the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office.
According to the information provided, the controls are a Berlin-wide campaign. "Dog excrement in public spaces is unnecessary and illegal. The nationwide campaign is intended to raise awareness and at the same time show that the issue is being taken seriously," said the responsible district councillor Christopher Schriner (Greens) from Mitte.
In addition to the checks, the local police will provide information on the applicable rules and also point out the obligation to carry dog waste bags, according to the statement from Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. Anyone who leaves their own four-legged friend's dog poo lying around or does not have a suitable tool to remove it completely must expect a warning fine of 55 euros or a fine of up to 10,000 euros.
