Around 166,000 students are enrolled at Berlin's state universities for the current winter semester. These are preliminary figures, according to the Senate Department for Science, Health, and Nursing.
The Department estimated that the final figure would probably be just under 170,000. That is about 2,000 more students than in the previous winter semester. The winter semester began on October 1. At some universities, such as the Free University (FU) and Humboldt University (HU), lectures will begin on Monday, October 13. According to the Senate Administration, no significant changes in student numbers are expected at non-state universities compared to last year. A total of approximately 203,000 students are expected to attend all Berlin universities.
According to preliminary figures from the Senate Department for Science, the provisional number of students at the three largest universities is at the same level as last year. According to these figures, around 37,000 students are enrolled at the FU, around 35,000 at the HU, and around 34,000 at the Technical University (TU). Several thousand people are starting their studies this winter semester. According to its own figures, the HU currently has 7,860 first-year students (as of October 2). According to preliminary figures, around 8,350 new students have enrolled at the Free University. According to the TU, the expected enrollment figure is around 6,700 students in bachelor's and master's programs.
