Aerial bomb in Spandau: defusing successful, exclusion zone lifted

Bombe in Spandau

Police forces secure the area around the site where a World War II bomb was found.

The 100-kilo bomb from the Second World War discovered in Spandau has been defused. Residents can return to their homes.

The police had previously set up an exclusion zone around the site where the bomb was found in the Hakenfelde neighbourhood. Around 12,400 people from the neighbourhood had to leave their homes in the morning. The district set up emergency accommodation in the Kant-Gymnasium.

Defusing had to be interrupted

In the early afternoon, work began on defusing the Russian unexploded bomb that had been found during construction work on Wednesday morning. It had to be interrupted in the meantime because there were still people in the exclusion zone.

Unexploded bomb found on Wednesday

According to the police, the Russian unexploded bomb was found during construction work on Wednesday morning. As the bomb posed no immediate danger, the police decided to defuse it on Friday.
