Warning Day on Thursday: Berlin tests warning sirens

Following last year’s premiere, the warning sirens will sound again in Berlin on Thursday morning.

As part of the nationwide warning day, a test alarm will be triggered at 11 am, followed by the all-clear at 11.45 am, as announced by the Senate Administration on social media. According to information on the Civil Protection website, warning messages will also be disseminated via the Nina warning app, on the radio, on television and through other channels.

Up to 550 sirens planned for Berlin

On Warning Day, the authorities test various warning systems to practise for an emergency. Last year, the warning sirens wailed for the first time in more than 30 years. Over 200 sirens were used during the exercise. In the coming years, the roll-out is set to continue, particularly on the outskirts of the city, with the number of sirens rising to as many as 550.
