Torsten Kühne (l-r, CDU), State Secretary for School Construction and Digitisation, Ute Bonde (CDU), Berlin Senator for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment, Iris Spranger (SPD), Berlin Senator for the Interior and Sport, and Police Vice President Marco Langner open the back-to-school road safety campaign day at Tempelhofer Feld with a "school press conference".

Pupils from ten Berlin schools practise on various courses at the back-to-school road safety day at Tempelhofer Feld.

As schools start again after the summer holidays, Transport Senator Ute Bonde asks all Berliners to take special care of younger children in traffic.

"Let's be even more attentive, careful and considerate of our children as they start school," said the CDU politician at a day of action on Tempelhofer Feld. The event gave 220 second-graders from nine schools a playful introduction to safe behaviour in traffic.

More visibility thanks to light-coloured clothing and reflectors

Katharina Günther-Wünsch, Senator for Education, Youth and Family (CDU), explained that the journey to school should be safe and carefree for all children, whether on foot, by bike or on a scooter. "Light-coloured clothing and reflectors increase their visibility, especially in the darker months of the year. But mindfulness and consideration from all road users are just as important." The event, which takes place annually, was organised by the Bürgerstiftung Berlin. It took place for the third time this year.
