"Experience Democracy": First open day at city hall

Rotes Rathaus

Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) is inviting people to an open day at the Rotes Rathaus for the first time.

On Saturday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the motto is "Experience Democracy", according to Senate spokesperson Christine Richter. "Admission is free."

View into the office of the Governing Mayor

Visitors to the city hall will have the opportunity to take a look at the Senate meeting room, the coat of arms room, the ceremonial hall or the mayor's office. In a different kind of "speed dating", employees from the departments will answer questions about their areas of work. At several hands-on stands, for example, they will be talking about the European area and the protocol of the State of Berlin.

Stage talks and panel discussions

Wegner, the State Secretary for Digitalization and Administrative Reform, Martina Klement, and the Head of the Senate Chancellery, Florian Graf, will talk about their work during stage talks. The State Secretary for Federal and European Affairs, Florian Hauer, and Berlin's Head of Protocol, Georg Klußmann, will also talk about their work and answer questions from the audience. Wegner will be present three times - including in a discussion round with young people.

Music and entertainment program

Entertainment will also be provided at the open day, as the Senate Chancellery assures. The Rotes Rathaus is the stage location for the Fête de la Musique for the first time. There will also be gastronomic offerings and hands-on activities for children in the courtyard of the town hall.
