In mid-March, the so-called ring railway bridge was temporarily closed. It is due to be demolished by the end of the month. The demolition will start this week.
Following preparations in recent weeks, "the dismantling work on the Ringbahnbrücke on the A100 motorway at the Funkturm junction will begin on Friday, 11 April 2025," announced Autobahn GmbH Nordost.
The dismantling of the bridge and the nearby Westendbrücke on the A100 should be largely completed by 25 April, the Senate Department for Transport announced on 4 April. Autobahn GmbH will then have the tracks that run under the bridges restored to working order. "If this work is completed on schedule, the S-Bahn service can be resumed from 28 April as things stand at present." According to the Berlin S-Bahn, around 50,000 passengers normally travel on the affected section every day.
Some residents in Charlottenburg are to receive compensation for the noise during the demolition of the A100 bridge. Autobahn GmbH has offered residents of Dernburgstraße 27-57 100 euros per person per night between April 10 and 17, a spokesperson announced. "In order to actively and quickly protect residents from the incipient noise of the demolition work, they will be compensated. The offer of compensation was sent to the affected households by direct mail today," continued the spokesperson for Autobahn GmbH.
Due to a widening crack in the supporting structure of the Ringbahnbrücke at the Funkturm junction, Autobahn GmbH closed the three-lane carriageway completely to traffic for a short time in mid-March. Northbound traffic is now travelling in one lane on the opposite carriageway, while southbound traffic has two lanes instead of the previous three.
