Berlin establishes a contact point against anti-Semitism in art and culture.
The programme entitled "Open Arts Hub Berlin" will begin work in the first quarter of 2025, as announced by the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion.
The contact point is intended to advise those affected by anti-Semitism, offer workshops and educational measures on the topic and support the development of guidelines and regulations. It is aimed specifically at cultural institutions and professionals. Specialist conferences and round tables are also planned.
In August, the cultural administration launched a call to find a suitable organisation. The specialist advice centre Ofek gegen Antisemitismus and the Institut für Neue Soziale Plastik association, which claims to want to develop artistic projects from Jewish perspectives, were commissioned to set up the advice centre. According to the cultural administration, a maximum of 550,000 euros will be available to these organisations in the coming year. The money comes from a pot for projects against anti-Semitism and to promote interfaith dialogue. The Recherche- und Informationsstelle Antisemitismus (RIAS) Berlin and the Mobile Beratung gegen Rechtsextremismus Berlin (MBR) are also supporting the advice centre, according to the statement.
