Due to construction work, the airport cannot be reached by S-Bahn up to and including 7 November. Deutsche Bahn, the operator of the Berlin S-Bahn, is organising a replacement bus service during these times. Passengers can change from Berlin to the already faster regional trains such as the RE 8, the airport express FEX or the RB 23.
According to the railway company, extensive underground cable construction work is required to equip the line with the digital train control system ZBS. During the construction work, the signal box in Schöneweide will be converted to electronic signal box technology. Additional points and new power supply systems for the S-Bahn will also be installed. Tracks will also be renewed during the construction work.
Construction work on the route to BER in three phases
The first construction phase begins tonight at 10.00 pm and lasts until Monday night. During this time, S-Bahn services between Airport Berlin Brandenburg BER and Baumschulenweg will be cancelled. In the second construction phase from Monday morning until the morning of 14 October, S-Bahn services between the airport and Schöneweide will be interrupted. After that, the section between the airport and Adlershof will be closed to S-Bahn traffic until 1.30 a.m. on 8 November.
Further construction measures in the south-east
There will also be timetable changes on other S-Bahn connections in south-east Berlin due to the construction work. The line between Spindlersfeld and Schöneweide will be closed between 18 October (10 p.m.) and 4 November (1.30 a.m.). During this time, the S47 will only run between Schöneweide and Hermannstraße. There will be a replacement bus service on the closed section.
