More than a thousand people from Ukraine looked for work at a job fair for refugees in Berlin.

"In our eyes, this is a complete success," said a spokeswoman for the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) on Thursday. Mostly women came to the event organised by the IHK and the regional directorate of the Federal Employment Agency, she said. 60 companies - for example from the retail, catering or IT sectors - and 1,500 refugees had registered for the fair beforehand.

Around 2500 job and internship offers

The IHK spokeswoman said that the companies had an estimated 2,500 to 3,000 unfilled jobs or internships and dual training programmes on offer. How many of the more than 60,000 registered Ukrainian refugees in Berlin have already found a job is still unclear, according to the IHK and the regional directorate of the Federal Employment Agency. However, the response to the job fair showed that there was great interest. "We had the impression that it was not just about initial information, but about the concrete job search," said the spokesperson.
