Schönhauser Allee to become safer for cyclists

Schönhauser Allee in Prenzlauer Berg is to become safer for cyclists from the beginning of next year.

On the busy Berliner Straße, a protected bike lane and a wider sidewalk will be built towards the end of the year, as the Senate Department for Urban Mobility announced on Monday (April 25, 2022). On about 720 meters, the new route for bicycles should run on both sides of the right lane. According to the information, the space was predominantly used for parking so far. The lanes for cars and bicycles are to be separated from each other with concrete curbs.

Expansion of cycle paths as Senate goal

"The future layout therefore offers more space for cycling, strolling and sitting together. This means more quality of stay for everyone and much more safety for the many people who cycle here," said Senator Bettina Jarasch (Greens). The Berlin Senate has set itself the goal of expanding the bike lanes as part of the desired traffic turnaround.
