Berlin and Brandenburg are still set to experience the peak of the heat wave this weekend. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), temperatures will rise throughout the day and reach up to 41 degrees on Sunday.
Temperatures climbed to 38 to 41 degrees on Saturday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible in the Prignitz region only in the evening. The night will also remain warm, with lows between 24 and 19 degrees.
According to reports, the extreme heat is expected to continue on Sunday. However, cumuliform clouds will form from the southwest as the day progresses, potentially leading to locally intense heat thunderstorms. According to the DWD, there is a risk of severe weather, including heavy downpours, hail, and strong gusts of wind.
On Monday, showers and thunderstorms will continue to pass through, with highs ranging from 29 to 32 degrees. On Tuesday, temperatures will drop further to between 23 and 28 degrees.
The ongoing drought is causing the risk of wildfires to continue rising this weekend. A high risk level is currently in effect in nearly all districts of Brandenburg. In Potsdam-Mittelmark, the cities of Potsdam and Brandenburg an der Havel, as well as in Prignitz and Havelland, the risk is even classified as very high, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Environment, and Consumer Protection. Even within Berlin, the wildfire risk ranges from moderate to very high, depending on the district, according to the DWD’s wildfire risk index.
