Many Berliners have noticed for some time now that they are able to secure appointments at the Citizens’ Bureau more quickly than before. Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) has announced that the “14-day target”, which has been in the works for years, has now officially been achieved.
According to the figures, in March, for the first time, every person who wanted to book an appointment within 14 days was able to do so. By way of comparison: according to the Senate Chancellery, the proportion of appointment requests fulfilled within 14 days stood at 48.5 per cent in March 2023, 58.2 per cent in March 2024 and 74.0 per cent in March 2025.
So it now stands at 100 per cent. That said, in many cases residents can also secure appointments at the local government offices at shorter notice – often even on the same day or the next. “The Senate promised that Berliners would once again be able to book an appointment at a local government office without any problems. And we have kept our word,” explained Wegner.
To bring about these improvements, the Senate had, for example, created 100 new posts in Berlin’s citizens’ advice bureaux. In addition, four new citizens’ advice bureaux were opened. A so-called "standby pool" ensures that short-term vacancies in the citizens’ advice bureaux can be filled.
Furthermore, according to the Senate Chancellery, more than 460 public services are now available online, such as registering or changing one’s place of residence. Since last year, certain services can also be carried out at citizens’ advice bureaux without the need for an appointment. “Because that is our goal: a modern and digital service for all Berliners,” said Wegner.
