    Berlin's Senator for the Interior, Spranger, describes May 1 as “largely peaceful.”

Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) and Senator for the Interior Iris Spranger (SPD) have given a positive assessment of the demonstrations and other events on May 1.

“May 1 in Berlin was peaceful,” Wegner said on the X website. “This is also a major success of the prudent and thorough planning and preparation by our police and fire departments.” Spranger emphasized that the day had been “largely peaceful.” The long-prepared operational plan had worked out, featuring an adapted de-escalation strategy and enhanced measures to protect demonstrations and festivals from incidents such as rampage driving.

Tens of thousands of people out and about in Berlin on May 1

5,300 police officers were on duty, including more than 2,000 from other states and the Federal Police. More than 60,000 people were in green spaces and parks. The police also demonstrated that criminal offenses would be consistently investigated and punished in accordance with the rule of law.
