Coffee cups and packaging waste, but also cigarette butts and sometimes even syringes: Regular cleanup of Berlin’s playgrounds is as tedious as it is urgently needed.
Starting June 1, the city cleaning service BSR will be tasked with cleaning an additional 80 playgrounds selected by the districts. BSR CEO Stephanie Otto announced this at a press conference. New staff members have been hired and vehicles purchased for this purpose. Since 2024, BSR has been cleaning 135 playgrounds daily. Starting June 1, 2026, another 80 will be added as additional funds have been made available in the state budget for this purpose.
