Berlin has opened an overseas office in the Indian IT hub of Bengaluru. It is the third such office worldwide, following those in New York and Beijing. The “Berlin Business Office India” is intended to serve as a central point of contact for Berlin-based companies and startups looking to enter the Indian market. It is also designed to assist Indian companies in establishing a presence in Berlin.
Bengaluru is the capital of the southern Indian state of Karnataka and, with a population of approximately 13.2 million, is India’s fourth-largest city. The city has long been regarded as India’s IT capital, now home to some 25,000 IT companies.
Berlin’s Senator for Economic Affairs, Franziska Giffey (SPD), also traveled to Bengaluru for the opening of the overseas office, which was attended by representatives of the state government and German Consul General Achim Burkart. According to reports, the initiative is supported by the German-Indian Chamber of Commerce and the government of Karnataka.
“Today we are opening more than just an office—we are opening new doors between Berlin and India,” said Giffey. India is a leading hub for innovation in the fields of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and digitalization, and as the world’s fifth-largest economy, it is an important trading partner for Germany and Berlin. “That is why our internationalization strategy places a clear focus on India.”
