The planned nighttime closure of Görlitzer Park in Kreuzberg has now been officially announced by the Berlin Senate, effective Sunday. Construction work on the new fencing and entrance gates has been completed, "so we will close Görlitzer Park at night starting March 1," said Environment Senator Ute Bonde (CDU) at a meeting of the House of Representatives.
This applies from September 23 to May 13 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and during the summer months from May 14 to September 22 from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. This is stated in the general ruling issued by the Senate, which has now been published. It also states that restrictions on certain types of use and opening hours may be imposed on public green spaces and recreational facilities "located in areas with high crime rates."
The opening hours should be "clearly and visibly displayed" at all entrances, said Bonde. A private security service is responsible for closing and opening the gates. It should also secure the gates, patrol the park at night, and ask people to leave. If necessary, it will also inform the public order office or the police.
