Berlin's state election commissioner Stephan Bröchler is looking for new polling stations for next year's House of Representatives election.
Companies, institutions, associations, and private owners could make their premises available, according to a statement. Compared to the federal elections in early 2025, significantly more polling stations would have to be set up in order to keep waiting times as short as possible.
According to the information provided, new polling stations should have a minimum floor space of 50 square meters and, if possible, be barrier-free. This includes level access, sufficient space for wheelchairs, good accessibility by public transport, and, if possible, barrier-free sanitary facilities. Only in this way can it be ensured that all Berliners can exercise their right to vote as easily as possible, it was further stated.
The number of polling stations required has not been disclosed. According to information released in September, 40,000 election workers are being sought for the election. On September 20, 2026, Berliners will vote on the composition of the state parliament and the twelve district assemblies. For the first time in a House of Representatives election, 16- and 17-year-old Berliners with German citizenship will also be eligible to vote.
