Berlin's first document dispenser has gone into operation at the Eichborndamm Citizens' Office in the Reinickendorf district. From now on, citizens can pick up their requested ID cards and passports and return their old documents there around the clock. No appointment is necessary, according to the Senate Chancellery.

The new service is a joint project between the Senate Chancellery and the Reinickendorf District Office, according to the statement. A similar box will also be put into operation in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg shortly. There are plans to extend this service to other districts.

Many paths lead to an identity card

To apply for a new ID card or passport, Berlin residents must visit a citizens' office in person. Completed documents can also be picked up on site without an appointment, or they can be sent by mail upon request. A third option is now available—initially in Reinickendorf—which is to pick up documents from a special box.
