The Museum of Musical Instruments collects and displays musical instruments of European art music from the 16th to the 21st century.

The collection of the Musikinstrumenten-Museum Berlin (Berlin Musical Instrument Museum) comprises around 3,300 instruments, many of which are preserved in playable condition. Around 800 of these instruments can be admired in the exhibition.

Unique collection of wind instruments

The unique collection of wind instruments from St. Wenceslas in Naumburg from the first half of the 17th century is outstanding. Other highlights include a violin built by Antonio Stradivari, Sophie-Charlotte's traveling harpsichord, several of Frederick the Great's transverse flutes, Carl Maria von Weber's own fortepiano and the impressive Mighty Wurlitzer theater organ owned by the von Siemens family. Oskar Sala's Mixturtrautonium and a sound installation shed light on experimental instrument making on an electronic basis in the 20th century.
