“Up Close” – European Restoration Day

Heidi von Rüden Shakibi offers an insight into her work as a restorer of plucked string instruments at the MIM.

At the Musical Instrument Museum of the State Institute for Music Research, Heidi von Rüden Shakibi is responsible for the restoration of plucked string instruments. She is responsible for more than 800 harps, guitars, mandolins, lutes, theorboes, zithers and other historical and modern plucked instruments. Through her work with them, she understands how these instruments were and are made, and what significance they hold today – on concert stages, in domestic music-making or in the museum.

On European Restoration Day, she invites you to share in this vibrant connection between the object, the past and the present, and will offer insights into her work as a conservator at the MIM during two guided tours.
