Schloss Britz

Schloss Britz

Schloss Britz, a former manor-house, features historic rooms showcasing the interior design of the Gründerzeit era and rotating thematic exhibitions.

Schloss Britz (English: Britz Castle) is a former manor house dating from the early 18th century. In 1971, Schloss Britz was designated a historic landmark. The district of Neukölln renovated the castle and restored its grounds from 1985 to 1988.

Birtz Castle Park and Manor House

The sprawling park, with its straight sightlines, orchards and a bosquet, is laid out in the typical Baroque style. Winding paths, exotic plants, a fountain with a sculpture and a garden pavilion invite visitors to explore and stroll. The estate complex with its clock tower and stables features many typical Schinkel elements.

Permanent exhibition: Interior design in the Gründerzeit

The permanent exhibition at Schloss Britz transports visitors back to the Gründerzeit era. In five exhibition rooms, original furniture and decor show how people in Berlin lived at the end of the 19th century. The Gründerzeit era was marked by economic growth and a resulting new sense of national identity. This was also reflected in the lifestyle of the middle class, which increasingly centered on prestigious homes furnished with high-quality furniture.
