Sportmuseum Berlin

The Berlin Sports Museum in the Olympic Park houses one of the largest and most diverse sports collections in Germany.

Please note: The exhibition at the Sportmuseum is expected to remain closed until the end of 2026. Research in the library, photo library or archives, as well as inquiries regarding the collection and incoming and outgoing loans, are possible by prior written or telephone appointment at sportmuseum@seninnsport.berlin.de.

The Berlin Sports Museum grew out of preliminary work carried out in East Berlin to establish a national central sports museum for the GDR. In 1995, it became an integral part of the Stadtmuseum Foundation and has been located in Berlin’s Olympic Park since 1997. The Berlin Sports Museum also includes the Berlin Water Sports Museum (German: Wassersportmuseum) in Grünau.

Germany's largest sports collection

With more than 100,000 artifacts and a photo collection of approximately 1.5 million images, the Berlin Sports Museum houses Germany’s largest sports collection. The library contains some 37,000 volumes of sports history literature spanning three centuries, including all the official journals of German sports organizations in both East and West from 1945/46 to 1989.
