Women's Day in Berlin

International Women's Day is a public holiday in Berlin. Demonstrations, panel discussions and other events are dedicated to the topics of gender equality, the gender pay gap and women's rights. However, numerous leisure events also take place on the holiday on 8 March - from shows and theater to concerts and comedy.

The organizers of the "Frauen*kampftag" demonstration see themselves as part of a new feminist movement. They criticize patriarchal structures, a society oriented towards profit maximization and the ideology that every person is the architect of their own happiness. They demand a life without fear, exploitation and oppression.

The FrauenNetz Marzahn-Hellersdorf has been laying flowers at the Clara Zetkin monument on International Women's Day for over 20 years. The program includes speeches by politicians and activists. As the park is currently being redesigned, the flowers cannot be laid directly in front of the monument, but only in front of the construction fence.

Purple Ride regularly organizes a Feminist Women*Bicycle Demonstration on 8 March. They demand real equality of opportunity regardless of gender and gender identity - and according to the organizers, this starts with more visibility for FLINTA*. The demonstration will start at Mariannenplatz and cycle to Leopoldplatz.

This year, various mosques and Muslim associations are inviting women to break their fast together on International Women's Day. Inspired by the Open Mosque Day, they are opening their doors on this day - exclusively for women, regardless of origin, religion or ideology. The joint breaking of the fast takes place at 18:03, with the program starting 30 to 90 minutes beforehand.
