13 April – 15 October 2017
Located in a new parkland next to "Gardens of the World", Kienberg hill and parts of the water-rich Wuhletal, international landscape architects, garden and landscape designers as well as plant producers and artists have created an impressive green oasis in the midst of the metropolis of Berlin. From a water garden to a vegetable patch to urban farms to a garden city - guests of the IGA will experience both traditional gardening art and new concepts for a green lifestyle. The motto of the IGA Berlin 2017 is "An Ocean of colours".
IGA 2017 Berlin: Highlights
The international gardens from all continents within the extended "Gardens of the World" site are the major attractions of the festival. There are also enclosed garden cabinets, which show contemporary trends in garden art. Laid out especially for the IGA, the new park areas further include atmospheric water gardens, an English landscape garden and an open-air stage with up to 5000 seats.
Exhibitions in the flower hall, palm house and numerous outdoor displays show the rich diversity of current landscape design. The exhibition site also contains a spectacular viewpoint in the shape of a cloud, the "Wolkenhain", which offers uninterrupted views of the centre of Berlin and the surrounding Brandenburg countryside.
Unquestionably a major highlight, a ropeway system from the main entrance of the IGA - the U-Bahn station "Kienberg – Gärten der Welt" - to the central area of the garden exhibition provides an excellent view of the IGA grounds and its various horticultural and architectural attractions.
Events on the IGA exhibition site
The 104 hectare exhibition ground - equal to almost 140 football fields - will host a number of events from classical concerts and musical performances to exhibitions, yoga sessions, and educational programmes for children and adults. There is also a play area for families, inviting them on a fantastic journey to exotic lands.
