The neighborhood Rosenthaler Vorstadt is located east of the north-south tunnel of the city railway and Bergstraße, and north of Torstraße (it historically reaches as far as Gesundbrunnen and Prenzlauer Berg). In the east, Schwedter Straße and Choriner Straße form the border. The neighborhood centers around Rosenthaler Platz and Brunnenstraße. This is also where the housing estate Neu-Voigtland was located, whose first buildings no longer exist. Today, late classicist and Wilhelminian style old buildings as well as a few new buildings dominate the area.
Rosenthaler Vorstadt
In the neighborhood of Rosenthaler Vorstadt, Berlin-Mitte is reminiscent of Prenzlauer Berg with its many cafés and bars.
Brunnenstraße
Starting at the turn of the century, Brunnenstraße developed from a suburban street to a shopping mile. In addition to residential buildings from the time around 1860, representative commercial buildings and tenement blocks with backyards were built in the period thereafter, and these still exist today. The new housing estate Fehrbelliner Höfe was also built here between Brunnen-, Veteranen- and Fehrbelliner Straße, featuring apartments, lofts, penthouses and townhouses.
Weinbergstraße and Zionskirchplatz
Both Weinbergstraße and Zionskirchplatz are close to the busy Kastanienallee, and are in no way inferior to it. There are amany cafés, restaurants, bars and the like. However, there are fewer tourists here. Many old buildings and the public park called Volkspark am Weinberg characterise the Kiez.
Volkspark am Weinberg
The lawn of the Volkspark am Weinberg, situated on a southwestern slope, is popular with residents, especially in the summer. The lower part features an artificial pond, the part above a rose garden, a playground, and a sports facility with a football field and table tennis tables.
Arkonaplatz
Arkonaplatz is the central square in the northern part of Rosenthaler Vorstadt. The area is a popular residential area for young families. There is a spacious playground and restaurants all around the square. The neighbourhood is quiet and has retained much of its original character. There is a flea market on Sundays.
