The Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek was a gift from the American people after the end of the Soviet blockade. Today, it is the busiest public library in Germany.

The Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek was built in Berlin-Kreuzberg in 1954 as West Berlin's central public library. Construction was supported by donations from the American people. Today, the Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek is a branch of the Berlin Central and Regional Library and houses the humanities and the fine arts deparments as well as fiction, films, music and the Artothek. It is also home to the Children's and Youth Library. Together with the location of the Berlin City Library in Mitte, it is the busiest public library in Germany.
