Tegel Airport is located in Berlin's northern district Reinickendorf and is closer to the city than the airport in Schönefeld. Once construction work at the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt BER is finished, flight operations from and to Berlin will gradually move to BER and Tegel Airport will be closed.
Tegel Airport has no direct link to the S- or U-Bahn. The fastest way to get to the city is either by TXL Express Bus or by the Express Bus X9. Both stop right outside the terminal.
Express Bus X9 towards City West:
The X9 Bus departs every 10 to 20 minutes at Tegel Airport towards Zoo Station, the journey takes about 20 minutes. Zoo Station is linked to the S-Bahn and U-Bahn network, from Zoo Station any destination in the city can be reached easily.
The bus X9 also stops at: The underground station Jakob-Kaiser-Platz, which is linked to the U-Bahn line U7; station Jungfernheide with connections to the S-Bahn; station Ernst-Reuter-Platz, which is linked to the U2.
Fare: 2.80 Euros one way. Children at the age of 6 to 14 years pay 1.70 Euros.
Bus 109 travels to Zoo Station as well and tickets cost 2.80 Euros, too. Because this bus is not an express bus it stops at more halts and the journey from Tegel-Airport to the City West takes approximately 30 minutes.
