Langer See

Bootsverkehr auf der Dahme

Langer See is a widening of the Dahme River that begins north of Schmöckwitz and extends all the way to the old town of Köpenick.

In the river lake, which is up to 8.5 meters deep, there are several islands: Rohrwall Island, Little Rohrwall and Big Rohrwall. The northern shore of Langer See belongs mostly to Müggelheim, the southern shore to Grünau. Several sailing clubs are located at the Langer See. Along the southern shore runs the Schmöckwitz-Grünauer Uferbahn, which is operated as a streetcar line of the BVG.

Swimming in the Langer See

The Lange Seer has excellent water quality, although the depth of visibility can be very shallow due to algae growth. The Wendenschloß lido on the north shore has a sandy beach with beach chairs, a sunbathing lawn, bathing boats, a children's playground, a volleyball court and table tennis tables. On the southern shore is the Grünau lido, which offers sports facilities, a restaurant and a snack bar. The shore is artificially paved in both lido areas. The Bammelecke swimming area on the south shore is open to the public and has a sandy beach with an unpaved shore.

Facts about the Langer See

The Dahme flows very slowly in the area of the Langer See. On the one hand, this makes for turbid water, but on the other hand it made it possible to set up a regatta course. This is located in the northern area of the lake. The first rowing regatta took place as early as 1880, making the Berlin-Grünau regatta course the oldest sports facility still in use in Berlin. For the spectators of the competitions there is a covered grandstand.
