The picture books ‘Der beste Babysitter bin ich’ by Johanna von Horn and Charlotte Ramel, ‘Mamas Zaubertuch’ by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche and ‘Oma-Emma-Mama’ by Lorenz Pauli and Kathrin Schärer will be read.
A boy loves looking after the neighbor’s baby – because there’s nothing better than babysitting, even if it’s sadly not his own little sibling.
A shimmering silk scarf becomes magical during play: sometimes a flying carpet, sometimes a superhero cape, sometimes the best hiding place in the world – but above all, it’s a symbol of the love between mother and daughter.Playing together as a family creates connection – even for chameleons, who invite everyone to a loving, colorful game of hide-and-seek.
The books are exciting for children aged three to six – but they also bring joy to older visitors.
The curator
Chantal-Fleur Sandjon is an Afro-German author, editor, and spoken word artist. Her work focuses particularly on the nuanced representation of Black lives in Germany, embedding these experiences in the past, present, and future. Her young adult novel The Sun, So Radiant and Black (2022) won the German Youth Literature Award, among others, in 2023. Her latest novel, City of Trees (2024), is a poetic, Afro-diasporic, and Afro-spiritual exploration of transformation—both in the worlds around us and within ourselves. Sandjon advocates for radical diversity in German-language children’s and young adult literature, publishes articles on the subject, and supports institutions in developing anti-discriminatory practices.
