The Meierei is located on the idyllic northern tip of Peacock Island. The building, which has the external appearance of a dilapidated monastery complex, was commissioned by King Frederick William II in 1794/95. Inside, it surprises with the representative Gothic Hall on the upper floor, which was designed by the Italian artist Bartolomeo Verona with a three-dimensional perspective painting. Similar to similar romantic architecture from the end of the 18th century, such as Queen Marie Antoinette's Hameau de la Reine in the palace gardens of Versailles, the Meierei on the Pfaueninsel served as a retreat that combined elements of simple life with the luxury of the royal court.Translated with DeepL
