Blick über die Palisade ins Dorf – Blick über die Palisade ins Museumsdorf

Get out into nature: During summer vacation, the Düppel Museum Village is open daily—except Wednesdays—from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.!

This replica of a medieval village gives you a vivid glimpse into the daily lives of the people who lived here around 800 years ago. You can explore homes, granaries, and gardens, or try your hand at archery. The fields are home to both wild plants and crops that were once grown for food or to make various items. You can also meet typical farm animals from the Middle Ages, such as the Skudden, a sheep breed threatened with extinction. Their spring lambs are a delight not just for families with children!

On a guided tour, you’ll learn how the original settlement was discovered—the very site where the museum village stands today. You’ll discover what excavations have revealed about the daily lives of people back then and how everything is connected: the artifacts found in the ground, the plants in the fields, and the huts behind the palisade. If you’d like to get hands-on, you can help at the historic rope-making workshop to twist a rope from plant fibers.
