Alfred Schnittke’s First Cello Sonata is among the works featured on Marie-Elisabeth Hecker and Martin Helmchen’s acclaimed recent album From Eastern Europe. The piece now serves as the duo’s calling card for its Pierre Boulez Saal debut, alongside rarely performed works by Beethoven and Schumann as well as Mendelssohn’s Second Cello Sonata.
