LA FONTE MUSICA & MICHELE PASOTTI

Venezia salva: Vocal Music by Monteverdi, Cavalli, Garbieli, and others

Michele Pasotti and La fonte musica’s new program combines the magnificent Venetian church music of the 17th century with a swashbuckling episode from the city’s history. In 1618, a group of Spanish conspirators unsuccessfully tried to take over its government. French writer and philosopher Simone Weil dramatized the event in her 1955 play Venise sauvée (Venice Saved). Inspired by this story, the ensemble presents vocal and instrumental works by some of the era’s greatest composers, including Claudio Monteverdi, Francesco Cavalli, and Giovanni Gabrieli.
