Audio Guides & Audio Walks on Campus North I: Participatory Research and Knowledge Exchange

The (Listening) Theater is a participatory research and outreach project by the Tieranatomisches Theater and the Center for Cultural Technology at Humboldt University in Berlin. The project focuses on the question of how the history of Campus North has been inscribed in personal memories, sounds, and experiences—and how these can be made audible together.

Through dialogue with students, researchers, artists, former employees, neighbors, and visitors, a growing audio archive is taking shape that documents the multifaceted stories and cultures of knowledge at Campus North from 1790 to the present. The project combines academic research, oral history, artistic practice, and heritage education to develop an audio guide and audio walks that will be available to the public starting in 2027.

Invitation

Anyone interested is invited to contribute their own memories, photographs, documents, or personal experiences—online, in the project space at the Tieranatomisches Theater, or at public memory collection events. Listening is understood here as a communal practice that brings together different perspectives and opens up new ways of engaging with the history of this historic university site.

Every contribution helps us better understand how this place has been experienced, remembered, researched, inhabited, maintained, and transformed over generations.

Some contributions may be incorporated into future chapters of the audio guide, events, publications, videos, or the emerging audio and research installation at the Tieranatomisches Theater. Others will become part of the ongoing research process.

Some contributions may be incorporated into future chapters of the audio guide as well as into other formats developed as part of the project, including publications, videos, public programs, or a future archival installation in the Anatomical Theater. Others will become part of the ongoing research process.

All contributions will be handled with care.

Thank you for helping us listen to this place.
