Rose Beermann is an artist and researcher. She works as a choreographer, director, performer, and dramaturge in the field of independent performing arts. She creates her own works in the field of experimental dance, which have been shown at various theaters in German-speaking countries and at international festivals. Her interest in academic research and teaching first took her to the Institute for Applied Theater Studies in Giessen, then to HZT Berlin, among others. Since October 2022, she has been a doctoral student in the research training group ‚Documentary Practices: Excess and Withdrawal‘ at the Ruhr University Bochum, where she is researching inertia as a force of resistance. More information on her Homepage.

In my work, I explore how collective body images emerge, examining performative paradigms and choreographic structures that I encounter in my everyday life. At the moment, I am interested in the ambivalence of vulnerability: for a long time, I associated the concept of vulnerability with positive connotations, seeing it as a sign of openness, permeability, and the ability to be touched by others. Since images of injured or even dead bodies have been appearing more and more in my everyday life, I have been questioning this understanding of vulnerability: Who can afford to be vulnerable? And how does an open, permeable body differ from a wounded body?
