A woman travels to a Silesian village in Poland, the birthplace of one of her ancestors. Her search for traces leads her through landscapes and stories, to people of German and Polish origin, to monuments, ruins and archaeological excavations. Between documentary and fiction, the film uncovers, layer by layer, traces of migration and expulsion – and asks what origin and roots actually mean.
