The museum garden becomes a cinema: together with the Austrian Cultural Forum Berlin, the MEK presents an open-air film series exploring the people, landscapes and ways of life in and around the Tyrolean mountains.
The history of South Tyrol is shaped by political tensions, questions of cultural identity and competing visions for the future. The feature film "Zweitland" takes us back to 1961, when a series of bomb attacks shook the region.
At the centre of the story are brothers Paul and Anton. While Paul wants to leave his home village to study painting, Anton is prepared to go to any lengths – including violence – to defend the rights of the German-speaking minority. Caught between family ties, political conflict and personal dreams, the film paints a vivid picture of a society in upheaval.
"Zweitland" interweaves historical events with an intimate family story, offering a compelling look at a region whose history continues to resonate today.
Before the screening, the special exhibition "The Mountains of Tyrol" will be open to visit until the film begins.
