Zettel's Traum – Pencil Testing Papers

For about 15 years, artist Vinzent Britz has been collecting small test papers from an art and drawing supply store in Berlin-Kreuzberg—the anonymous sketches, doodles, and thoughts that people leave behind when trying out pencils, ink, or paints. The collection now comprises more than 3,500 drawings. The project has evolved over many years in Berlin and is now being exhibited publicly for the first time.

Each piece of paper is unwittingly marked by visitors testing pencils, chalk, and other materials, becoming a serendipitous work of art that was never meant to be kept, seen, or exhibited. The individual fragments, collected and archived over more than fifteen years, come together as a collective work exploring unconscious creation, chance, repetition, and time.
