Few have so fundamentally revolutionised our concept of living as Danish designer and architect Verner Panton (1926‒1998). Including more than 100 exhibits, the presentation commemorates the designer’s 100th birthday, inviting visitors to use all their senses to delve into a utopian world of forms, colours and designs.
Panton’s iconic furniture embodies an attitude towards life inseparably linked to the start of the 1960s. His living landscapes are a sensual total experience, ranging from carpets to furniture to ceiling and lighting design.
His delight in experimenting with innovative plastics opened up previously unimaginable design possibilities: synthetic materials in place of wood and chrome-plated steel in place of veneer – stimulating and flexible materials instead of still, rigid ones. Panton’s working methods were a break with tradition and an unconditional commitment to progress.
