Thaddeus Strode: stairway to somewhere: a soundtrack

Thaddeus Strodes' “stairway to somewhere: a soundtrack” combines references from mass media, philosophy, art history, film, illustration, and surf culture into a painted mixtape.

On display are new paintings that combine figurative and textual elements on canvases whose size corresponds to the human scale. Their themes—life, death, and rebirth; transformation and transcendence—are continued in an oversized model of a ship and in ghostly objects whose blue color scheme is reminiscent of a blue screen as used in videography. This ensemble is permeated by the sounds of an electric guitar, which the artist activates at the exhibition opening and which visitors can play throughout the duration of the exhibition.
