The artist group Seafoam Palace transforms the Humboldthain flak tower into a cosmic fragment in their narrative sound and light installation ‘Roadside Picnic’. In an atmospheric tour, visitors explore an unreal intermediate realm of history and fantasy, in which the projected world is somewhat out of joint.
A planet that has left its solar system glides aimlessly and silently through dark space. In the enraptured world of his landscapes, inspired by the ‘Zone’ in Andrei Tarkovsky's film Stalker, other laws of nature apply: Concrete blocks hang on gossamer threads, water flows upwards, memories and desires take shape. Visitors are invited to explore this fictional world for themselves. In collaboration with Berliner Unterwelten e.V., Seafoam Palace presents its narrative sound and light installation in one of Berlin's most impressive buildings.

Seafoam Palace is a group of artists from Detroit/USA that has been organising site-specific events, art exhibitions and scavenger hunts in underground and abandoned spaces for over 20 years. Their planetary series ‘Falling Sideways’ has also been performed in the Wieliczka Salt Works (Poland), Tunisia, Estonia and various locations in the USA.

Please note:

- Participation is only permitted with suitable footwear: a secure fit around the foot, closed at the toes and heel, and a sturdy, treaded sole. High heels, sandals, hiking sandals, flip-flops, espadrilles, ballerina flats, Crocs, etc. are not permitted.

- Warm clothing is recommended (internal temperature approx. 10 degrees).

- Pets and large items of luggage are not permitted.

- Helmets are provided.

- Due to the nature of the building, the anti-aircraft tower is not wheelchair accessible. There are numerous flights of stairs, some of which are steep.

- There are no visitor toilets on site.

Meeting point: Flak tower Humboldthain, on the lower platform of the flak tower ruins at the northern end of the Humboldthain Park. Follow the blue/white signs in the park from the entrance next to th the Badstraßen bridge. Be at the meeting point 10 minutes before.o
