The exhibition at Fotografiska Berlin shows how Roger Ballen has moved from narrative photography to an intermedia practice rooted in spontaneity and Art Brut. The exhibition presents Ballen’s diverse body of work in a chronologically inspired sequence: iconic black-and-white photographs, recent color works, Polaroids, etchings, and original drawings. The exhibition is complemented by lesser-known works that round out his practice in unexpected ways. It also features installations such as the new work *Drawing Man*, which bring Ballen’s unique aesthetic—the so-called “Ballenesque”—to life.
